The SYHA Executive Board election will be held during travel tryouts. Members can stop by the Nelson Center Rink 2 to cast their vote. Votes are limited to one per family. Below are the positions up for election and bios from each of the candidates.
Note: 16U/18U families are able to vote on Wednesday, August 29th from 7:30 - 9:00 PM at the Nelson Center during tryouts.
My name is Becky Douglas. I am seeking election to the SYHA Executive Board as the Vice President of Communications.
My husband, Steve and I have two sons who are actively involved in the SYHA. Grayson (age 13) will be a second year Bantam, and Griffin (age 9) will be a second year Squirt. During the 2019-2020 hockey season, I served as the team manager for the Squirt B2 team. Over the past 7 years, as my sons have developed through the SYHA, I have had exposure to learn to play, mini-mite and mite programs, as well as, house leagues. Our family is also involved in the Springfield Jr. Blues program as billets (housing) for junior hockey players.
In my current role as Administrator of Memorial Experience at Memorial Health System, I am responsible for patient, colleague and physician experience. I listen and respond to customer feedback and evaluate opportunities to improve processes to further enhance our services. I rely on strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and present concise information to variety of audiences. In my tenure at the Health System, I have held positions in marketing, web development and public relations. In short, I feel my professional skills would translate well to this board position.
I also serve on another local community board. Through that board, I’ve further developed my skills of negotiation, compromise and most importantly making and communicating fair and honest decisions as a board. This skill can be difficult at times, and the right measured approach is certainly an asset to any organization.
I truly appreciate all of the volunteer efforts that are made to make the SYHA a great organization. To further support my family’s passion for hockey, I am excited for the opportunity to serve the SYHA in a leadership capacity. Thank you for your consideration.
My name is Mendy Romack and I am seeking re-election for the position of Vice President of Communications. I have held this position on the SYHA Executive Board since 2016.
My husband Jason and I have been involved with SYHA since 2011 when our son Noah began Learn to Play. Next season he will be a first year Midget and also plays High School hockey for SHG. During our tenure with SYHA, our family has been very involved in many capacities. Jason has been an SYHA coach beginning at the Mini Mite (ADM) level, Lower House and up through this past season at the Bantam level. During the younger years, I was involved with fundraising efforts, jamborees and began as a travel team manager in 2015.
Since joining the board in 2016, I have worked to improve communications to the entire Association. I maintain the Association website, draft and publish Association-wide e-mail communications as well as oversee the Executive Board agendas and take minutes at monthly meetings. Over the past year, I have been working on building resources on the website for Parents, Coaches and Team Managers. We all know this sport is confusing for all when just starting out. I feel it is our responsibility to take our knowledge gained through the years and educate those coming after us.
I am very passionate about this organization and I feel that is displayed by my years of dedication to the organization. I would love to continue to serve as your VP of Communications and would appreciate your vote!
My name is Steve Bridge and I have been an SYHA hockey parent for five years and a certified coach for the past four. As you consider my nomination for VP of Marketing let me tell you a little more about myself.
In 2018, I created the idea of an association wide fundraiser that turned into the raffle tickets many you have sold for the past two seasons.
I think one of the best ways to market and show the impact of the organization is through a vibrant social media presence. So, I’m prepared to keep social media channels updated with current information. I will strive to have them better reflect each team’s success during the season. There is no better way to market the Kings, than by sharing the fun and great success all our players have from house leagues to travel teams.
Thank you for your consideration in voting for me as the VP of Marketing.
Let’s Go Kings!
Grant Hammer, along with two brothers, played hockey with the Springfield Youth Hockey Association as a youth. He now has two children, Cam and Josie, who play and whom he helps to coach. Hammer is also a member of the Springfield Park Board of Trustees, where he is a tireless advocate for youth hockey and the Nelson Center ice arena. Hammer was instrumental in several key facility and equipment upgrades totaling more than several hundred thousand dollars, which have greatly benefited the sport of hockey and the club itself. These include; the much needed purchase of a new Zamboni three years ago, resurfacing of the parking lot, bathroom, lighting, and Franklin Party Room upgrades. Additionally, Hammer spearheaded the marketing initiative that resulted in the Springfield Park District ultimately signing a marketing and sponsorship partnership with an NHL franchise that has resulted in an explosion of new interest in youth hockey and has grown the SYHA exponentially. Hammer will continue to serve the players and families of the SYHA if given the opportunity.
My name is Salam Kelleher and it’s an honor to submit my request for nomination for the Vice President of Marketing.
My family and I have been part of the Springfield Youth Hockey Association for over (4) years. Michael Kelleher, our son, started with the Jr. Blackhawks, completed the Learn to Play Levels 1 and 2 programs then joined the travel (6U) team. Michael is currently playing with the Springfield Kings (8U) and has been an active member of the traveling team. Our family has enjoyed the journey making friends and being part of the Springfield Youth Hockey Association family. The journey has increased our knowledge of the hockey program and have stepped up with volunteering for whatever task the Springfield Kings require to assist with the success of the program. The hard work of the coaching staff, volunteers, and families is very encouraging spurring personal motivation to become more involved with this great program.
In my (29) years’ work experience in the United States and Overseas, I held different roles managing teams of people which I think you will find an asset within the VP of Marketing. My background includes working as an Investment Banker at Chase Corporation for over (10) years, Transition Manager and Supervisor with LPL Financial for over (5) years, and currently employed locally with DXC in the Financial Services Team managing multiple clearing accounts.
In my current role at DXC, my responsibilities include and not limited to: preparing reports and comparisons, managing projects and participating in other projects as Subject Matter Expert to improve our process.
My experience as an Investment Banker and at LPL also includes working with high net worth clients and helping customers with banking and investment needs. The different roles in the banking and broker dealer industry helped develop my relationship management experience. And my current role at DXC helped developed analysis skills. My education consists of a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science.
I enjoy scrapbooking and crafting in my free time. Our family like to spend time exploring new places, going to the movies and catching up with friends.
If elected, my background and experience can contribute with supporting new and existing families, along with bringing a positive energy to the team. My family and I are so passionate about the hockey program through the SYHA and all that it stands for. My hope is to bring commitment, hard work and positivity to a program our family loves and would like to see to continue to grow.
Please accept this request for my nomination and please reach out with any questions. Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you.
