2021 SYHA Executive Board Election

The 2021 SYHA Executive Board election will be held during the week of March 8, 2021.  Members can stop by the Nelson Center to cast their vote.  Votes are limited to one per family.

    • Monday, March 8 from 5:30 - 8:30 PM
    • Tuesday, March 9 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
    • Wednesday, March 10 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
    • Thursday, March 11 from 5:30 - 8:00 PM
  • Location:
    • Open space in the corner of Rink 1 (between Rink 1 and Rink 2)
Below are the positions up for election and a bio from each of the candidates.

VP of Administration:

Position Responsibilities:
  • Will serve as the individual responsible for scheduling, referees, tournaments, and equipment/uniforms.
  • Steve Bridge:
    • I have been part of the Kings hockey program for nearly 7 years. During that time I have become a level 4 coach, been an assistant coach for five teams, created an association wide fundraiser and strived to build a love of hockey in every player I’ve come across.

      My goal of becoming the VP of Administration is to bring an open and transparent process to scheduling practices and games. As the SYHA program continues to grow and more teams begin to need ice time for practices and games its more important than ever to seek out new ways to create time on the ice. It’s critical that older teams are supported with full ice opportunities while finding appropriate times of the day and week for practices.  

      I have a work history that includes setting schedules for multiple people across large geographic work areas, strong communication skills and working on multiple projects at once.

      Along with those attributes I have a strong desire to see fairness in scheduling and trying new ways to bring extra ice opportunities to all Kings teams.
  • CJ Metcalf:
    • My name is C.J. Metcalf and I am placing my name before you for consideration as SYHA's Vice President-Administration. 

      My wife (Jenny) and I have two sons (Jacob & Owen) who have participated in SYHA programs. Professionally, I am employed by the Illinois Department of Insurance as the Deputy Director of Innovation & Market Analysis. I am charged with working with insurance companies to bring new and creative insurance offerings to consumers in Illinois, as well as monitoring the condition of the insurance marketplace. 

      I grew up playing youth hockey for the Affton Americans (please don't hold that against me--lol).  I have participated in the Senior Hockey League at the Nelson Center on Sunday evenings for a number of years as well. I honestly believe the game of hockey has provided me with more fantastic memories and lifelong relationships than I can quantify. My youngest son (Owen) is currently a second year squirt. As an assistant coach on his teams from ADM to present day, I have enjoyed watching his development and passion for the game blossom from the first time he hit the ice for the ADM program. My hope for him is that he develops the same lifelong passion for the greatest sport ever created that I still possess after all these years.

      I am humbly asking for your support to serve as SYHA's Vice President-Administration.  I pride myself in being a hard worker who is both approachable and responsive.  I am also a "lists" guy who takes a structured, organized and methodical approach to making sure tasks are finalized in an effective and efficient manner. I think these are very important traits in this role as one will be responsible for the association's scheduling duties.  It is my pledge to hit the ground running from Day 1 and strive for as seamless a transition as possible. Brian Mendenhall has done an excellent job in this role and leaves some tremendously large shoes to fill. I will rely on my professional experiences and best practices that I have gleaned from participation on other boards to fulfill the appointed duties. I am currently also an elected trustee of the Springfield Park District. I have served on that board since May 2015.

VP of Finance:

Position Responsibilities:
  • Will serve as the individual responsible for the association’s monies. Will prepare an annual budget, monthly reports, make all disbursements, determine all pricing, collect all dues and registration fees and other monies and prepare annual financial and tax statements. Will support team treasurers and team accounts. Will also serve as the Association Registrar maintaining member information and database, member registration, team applications and team rosters. Will maintain Association P.O. Box.
  • Salam Kelleher
    • My name is Salam Kelleher and it’s an honor to be considered for nomination for the Vice President of Finance.

      My family and I have been part of the SYHA for (6) years. Our son, Michael Kelleher, started with the Jr. Blackhawks and has been an active member of the traveling team moving up to Squirt next season. Our family has enjoyed the journey making friends and being part of the SYHA family. The hard work of the coaching staff, volunteers, and families is very encouraging spurring personal motivation to become more involved with this great program. My husband, Patrick, enjoyed volunteering during our home tournaments or whatever is needed to help the program/event to succeed. This year as hard as it was, I have enjoyed serving our families as a Team Manager for 8U Team 1. This was a great opportunity to not only support our team but also connect with other organizations and expand some great contacts.

      In my (30) years’ work experience in the United States and Overseas, I held different roles managing teams of people. My background includes working as an Investment Banker at Chase Corporation for over (10) years, Transition Manager and Supervisor with LPL Financial for over (5) years, and currently employed locally with DXC in the Financial Services Team managing multiple clearing accounts.

      In my current role at DXC, my responsibilities include but not limited to preparing daily/weekly/monthly financial reports, annual accounts audits, managing projects and participating in other projects as Subject Matter Expert to improve our process. The different roles in the banking and broker dealer industry helped develop my relationship management experience. And my current role at DXC helped developed analysis skills.

      I enjoy scrapbooking and crafting in my free time. Our family like to spend time exploring new places, going to the movies and catching up with friends. 

      If elected, my background and experience will bring commitment, hard work and positivity. My family’s continued support will not stop as we are so passionate about the hockey program through the SYHA and all that it stands for.

  • Marcus McGlasson
    • I am currently a Financial Advisor for Bank of Springfield Wealth Management, and focus on managing finances for associations, not for profit foundations, and other institutional clients. I have been with Bank of Springfield in this capacity for 14 years. 

      My son Everett play's on a 8u Kings team.  I also help coach during practice and games when needed. My other son, Garrett, is three and is just starting in the Learn to Skate for Hockey class.  I am registered as a coach with USA Hockey as well. 

      I feel that I would be a good fit for this program because of my background and education in finance, and my experience working in a financial capacity with other not for profits.  I also have a long term interest in the success of this program with having one kid who is several years in, and one who is just getting started.  I think we have a great program, and want to do my part to help the program continue to grow and succeed.
